BE STILL, MY HEART
Spain won the world cup. For those of you out there who did not watch the game and would like to reproduce the experience, just go outside and watch you lawn grow for 2 and a half hours then for 30 seconds, go watch the final scene of some action movie that has a car chase and lots of gunfire. Yep, that's what it was like. The final score was 1-0. It was like baseball but without the constant excitement.

Dear Phil: I feel very sorry that you did not enjoy the final of the football world cup, that in spite of the single digit score was a great match and it was watched by several hundred million people around the world. The two teams were the best and that explains why it was so tight. In football the goals are counted one by one, without inflating them with an artificial multiplying factor to bloat the final score. The game, that was invented in England is called football because it is played using the feet and the players do not need body armors to avoid fatal or crippling injuries: as an english sport, football is based on the ability of the players to move the ball with their feet and promotes fair play, not brute force. You have actual 90 minutes of playing; the commercial aspect of the game is confined before, in the 15 minutes of intermission and after the match; maybe this is the reason why football is not and will never be popular in the US. I remember that there was an American proposal to divide the match in four quarters and inflate the scores, in order to make the game more palatable here... fortunately it was not accepted by the rest of the world that is comfortable with the traditional rules that work well for so long. Very best regards, Juan Larrain
