BEAUTY and the BEAST 2010

SEUSS

I do not like this Uncle Sam,
I do not like his health care scam.
I do not like these dirty crooks,
Or how they lie and cook the books.
I do not like when Congress steals,
I do not like their secret deals.
I do not like this speaker Nan,
I do not like this 'YES WE CAN'.
I do not like this spending spree,
I'm smart, I know that nothing's free,
I do not like your smug replies,
When I complain about your lies.
I do not like this kind of hope.
I do not like it. nope, nope, nope!

Neither a REPUBLICAN nor a DEMOCRAT

The FLORIDA Police Benevolent Association (PBA) of which I am a member, has decided to endorse Charlie Crist for Senator from Florida. For those of you who follow politics, Crist was our Governor for 8 years and did a better than average job, sort of in the Schwarzenegger mold. At first I was kind of disappointed that they did not pick Republican Marco Rubio the "Great Cuban Hope" an alleged conservative. But then I said to myself..."this guy, Crist, is not a DEMOCRAT, the party of entitled free-loaders, race baiters, non-tax-payors, and socialists, nor is he a REPUBLICAN, the party of "spend like a drunken sailor" that put us underwater economically under Bush. He is an INDEPENDENT. I would gladly give him one term as Senator from Florida then I would vote for whomever runs against him that is not a DEMOCRAT. What the Hell, like Lieberman, and Jesse Ventura, at least it will be entertaining watching him try to walk the line in politics between the Left and the Right. Will they set up special seating in the middle of the dividing aisle in the Senate for Joe and Charlie, like they do for the Bride and Groom at a wedding?

Oh, and I would never send him any money for his campaign since he never sent me any for my job search. But I will vote for him. My cop friends do have a "union" mentality, but they are true-blooded Americans who serve out of love for our way of life. If he's good enough for them, he's good enough for me.

A BIGGER CLOWN than EMMET KELLY

This incompetent buffoon claims to be the voice of reason. He was the driving force behind much medical legislation that made it illegal for doctors to own medical facilities like MRI machines and rehabilitation facilities but allowed any other businessman who had no medical knowledge to own as many as they want.

In the news yesterday, today, and hopefully tomorrow, Stark's hubris and pomposity emerged and can be seen on FOX news, but not likely elsewhere except maybe CNN. He was caught on tape saying that the Federal GOVERNMENT could do anything it wanted to do, completely bypassing the CONSTITUTION. These clowns have been in office so long that they think they are royalty and entitled to stay until the end of time. And, on a federal level, they have no respect for state's rights or YOU.

Do yourself and your grandchildren a favor and throw this guy and everyone like him out of office. George Washington refused to run for office again after his one term because he felt that serving in politics meant taking a couple of years out of your life and then going back to the farm. Today, all politicians seem to begin running for their next term, 15 milliseconds after they take office. I know, some of you reason that your representative is great and you want him or her to keep representing you. I would bet that you have no idea what he or she has done or not done on your behalf. Have you really studied the voting record or just the campaign literature? Somebody is screwing up this country and congress' 11% approval rating seems to indicate that they are the monkey wrench in the gears of our country's success. Your representative is not a solution, but rather a part of the problem. DON'T REELECT ANYBODY.

"F" THE ENVIRONMENT, I WANT A HEMI

Many years ago, the movie ROBOCOP was released. I have seen it several times and it is entertaining as well as provocative. One of my favorite lines in the movie is when the Mayor of Detroit (where the movie takes place) brandishes a weapon and barricades himself in an office. The movie takes place in the future and the environmentalists have been in charge for a long time and many things we take for granted today are unavailable. The mayor demands as a condition of ending the standoff " A car with leather seats that gets really crappy gas mileage."

I tell this story in response to all the claptrap I have heard up here about recycling, and fuel consumption, the oil spill, and whatnot. Meanwhile, the average vehicle up here is a Jeep Wrangler that has the aerodynamics of a brick and gas mileage in the "teens."(Can you spell hypocrite?) Admittedly, there are lots of Mini Coopers too. I have not seen a PRIUS in 2 months. Don't you just want to tell the government and those whack-job environmentalists out there to get the Hell out of your way? Every once in a while, when I am listening to the TV news and they are interviewing some tree hugger about SUVs or Private jets and how they are ruining the planet, I get the urge to run out and buy something that gets abysmal fuel mileage and is too large to fit in my garage. The very word "GREEN" makes me want to hurl. I'll be damned if I am going to eat any breakfast cereal that has tree bark in it. Separating the plastic from the glass from the tin cans and putting them all in clear plastic bags is beginning to piss me off.

I tried to explain some of my frustrations to a young man I met at the Wharf Rat Club yesterday but he has never been free having been born and raised in the Nanny States of America singing the anthem..."Kumbaya." I tried to tell him about America when we used to have to feed ourselves and buy our own insurance, and where schools were places of learning not gunfire. He did not get it. And I am not surprised. It was like trying to explain colors to someone who was blind from birth. Anyhow, in this world run amok with political correctness, cultural diversity uber-ales, moral relativism, and environmentalism (way too many "isms") I just want to turn on my sprinkers, drive a gas-guzzler, leave my A/C on all the time, and throw out all those CFL lightbulbs and replace them with 250 watt bulbs. Unfortunately, the gross mismanagement of our country by the same people who are forcing this crappola on us, has left me with fewer dollars to pay for all this so I will have to wait until the economy bounces back. By then we will have to recycle our toilet water.

HOT, FLAT, CROWDED, and CRAZY

Tom Friedman spoke last night at the Nantucket High School as part of an annual lecture series. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize 3 times for his writing, among other praise, and it would not be unreasonable to listen to what he has to say. He spoke for an hour on America's imperative to start "right now" in order to not become irrelevant on the world stage. He linked Global Warming, the Economic Collapse, and the same old Energy policies under one rubric. I do not disagree with his contention that the first country to invent cheap-clean-energy is going to dominate the market and save the world from atmospheric carbon-poisoning. He hopes that will be America but there are no signs among the idiots in Washington that they are willing to come together for this urgent need. They would rather wrangle over drivel and avoid this issue.

If 10,000 scientists in America could get the money and the marching orders to come up with some great solutions (he was somewhat disparaging of the smugness of "Lefties" about driving Prius cars and using CFL bulbs and feeling these are a giant step) then 100 good ideas would be found and two would go on to become the Microsoft or Google of ENERGY. He neatly tied petrodictatorships, 1.6 billion people who have no electric outlet to plug into, and our economic future if we stay the course of creating fewer good ideas and exporting all our jobs to China. One of his great laments is about the waste of american brain-power because the economic incentives to come up with an energy solution are not there. He compared the internet revolution with the energy revolution and pointed to the biggest hurdle to overcome. With computers and iPhones, every time we spent more money we got more features like the ability to make a phone call anywhere on the planet, or surf the internet instead of going to the library. With energy, all we can do is produce electrons in a different way. The net result to the consumer is no different. You turn on a light in your home. Do you care if the electricity was produced by burning coal, or a nuclear reaction, or wind power? Not really, you just want power. So, the motivation of getting something you never had before, like movies on your cell phone, is not there. You just get the same thing, and for a while it will be more expensive.

He proposes that we tax gasoline and oil to provide for our needs like reducing the deficit, etc. but more importantly to create an incentive to look for other solutions to energy. Basically, as long as americans can get gas for their cars at less that $4.50 per gallon, we will continue to drive Hemi-Dodge Chargers, and turn our air-conditioners down to "freezing" in our malls. The emerging world in Brazil, India, and China is building power plants at a rate that nullifies in a day, the energy savings we get by all of our energy conservation though CFL bulbs, Hybrid cars and the like, for a year. We have to think BIGGER than C.A.F.E. standards, we need a whole new ball game, And if there is one thing we Americans can do, it's play ball. Now if we can only get those a-holes in Washington to stop getting in the way of progress by milling around on the field, being too left and too right, and coming up with stupid new rules every day, we might just hit a home run.

JIMMY vs WARREN

Now he lives on the island, fishes the piling
And drinks his Grey Lady each day
Writing his memoirs, losing his hearing
But he don't care what most people say

Through sixty-six years of perpetual motion
If he likes you, he'll smile and he'll say
"Some of it's magic, some of it's tragic
But I had a good life all the way"

And he went to Nantucket looking for answers
To questions that bothered him so
