Just like Alcoholics Anonymous or other addiction help systems, having a workout partner, or a buddy you can call upon to be honest with you and encourage you (and each other) makes all the difference. SO, when you decide that you are tired of being overweight and want to slim down, you can't do it by yourself. Get a partner. Share everything with your partner. How much do you weigh NOW? What is your goal? Then... when you just can't get out of bed, but have made a play-date with your workout partner, you do it anyway. And you both become losers, or WINNERS, or winners at losing.

The BUDDY System
You have to admire a 400 pound woman that could lose 160 pounds by diet and exercise and I hope that she can drop even more ballast. We are fascinated with weight loss in this country and there are several TV shows that capitalize on the process... "Biggest Loser" for one. Access to a gym is nice, but a pair of walking shoes and a book about calisthenics that can be done anywhere is almost enough. The missing link that stands in the way of success for most people is that lack of a coach or a partner. This is CORE to the TV programs. Self starting and self discipline are unlikely to be found in someone who became 400 pounds to begin with. Getting slimmer from there is not likely to happen without someone to pace you, or coach you, weigh you, measure you, and be there when times are tough.
