DE (metrio) LICIOUS

Reason enough to fly home to Sarasota. We did lots of things on this perfect length trip back to our tropical island, Siesta Key. The homestead was in great shape except for another dead coconut palm. Pity. They are impossible to dig out for a reasonable price. You usually cut them off flush with the garden soil. Hard to replant in the same spot. No more coconut palms for me. Next tree is something more hardy. like a queen palm or an oak tree. Or a concrete post.

Back to food. As you loyal readers know, I am not a fan of many of Nantucket's restaurants. We are anxious to try a couple of new ones but my
Expectations are low. A hungry person can get a Greek salad, chicken Parmesan sandwich and unlimited refills of coke for about $8 at DEMETRIOS in Sarasota. I mean you can get a buzz from all the caffeine. You've heard of the two martini lunch? On some longer lunches with friends we have some 2-pee lunches. As in you have to take several bathroom breaks.

I have gone to this same restaurant since 1976 when we first arrived in Sarasota, Florida. My kids who are in their 30s used to go in infant carriers. We would either perch the state-of-the-art plastic bucket on the table, chair or floor. Who knew infants liked pizza ( blow on it a lot first).

My favorite meals are Meatballs and shells, deep dish and baked in a metal bowl. Among the cognoscenti this is affectionately referred to as the "dog bowl. " I also like their meatball sandwich or the chicken Parm. They make Greek dishes too like mousaka and spinach pies.

On my last trip there a few days ago, the good looking woman at the cash register, the owners daughter, said to me " I really enjoy your writing, referring to this blog, you write like a real writer " I take that as a compliment.
