MODERN DAY UNIFORM

BACK IN THE DAYS OF THE VIETNAM WAR...we had lots of different clothing to wear in the ARMY. There were tan short and long sleeve shirts and khaki pants, Green Wool suits with a stripe down the leg with a tie and tan shirt. There were big hats with large round disc shapes and another hat that folded up flat. We had green fatigues but not for everyday wear unless your job was to roll around in the mud and shoot people. Today most of the military forces wear Battle Dress Utility (BDU) fatigues in various camouflage colors. Even in office settings like at the Pentagon, and on TV where generals are being interviewed, they wear these comfortable and serviceable clothes. Long sleeve shirt not tucked in and pants with lots of pockets, like cargo pants. T-shirts in various earth tones and utility caps that have a visor to shield your eyes from the sun, and some berets (most of the soldiers now wearing the black beret are being switched to a crushable baseball style or a Boonie hat. I always had my doubts about those uncomfortable and stuffy wool suits and ties in a military work environment. It was good to see male and female officers wearing these camo fatigue clothes in our recent trip to the Pentagon area. (inadvertent....see previous blog).
