HEY MON, YU GOIN' TO NANTUCKET?

I wrote about this last year... the surprising number of Jamaicans, aside from the Kitty, who live and work ona dis here Hiland (Island). They are quite numerous in the hospitality industry, food stores, and retail. Many of them are here on a special work visa and then when it gets colder than a well digger's belt buckle on Nantucket, they move to Florida to work there.

One has to wonder in a country where there is 9% unemployment, why we have to import Foreign Labor to do these jobs. Maybe our people are too good to work for $15 an hour or maybe when you get 99 weeks of unemployment you have no incentive. I don't know.

Anyway, most of these Jamaicans are excellent employees. They are efficient and courteous and really seem to care if you are pleased with your purchase. Maybe that's the big difference between native workers and the imported variety. Maybe if you are grateful to have a good job that pays well your attitude is better than if you are forced to work by "the Man."
