Freedom Fries

Not long ago we, as a nation, were disenchanted with the French. We were miffed (pissed) to such a degree that we no longer referred to "French" fries as french fries but referred to them as "Freedom" fries. I forget why we hated the french there for a while, but since they have hated us since we saved their ass in WWII, I really don't care why.

We are driving to 'Sconset for lunch today at Chanticleer, which all you classicists remember is the vain rooster from Canterbury Tales. For only $25 per person, we will be able to eat a 3 course lunch special during Nantucket Restaurant week (nantucketrestaurantweek.com) I will bring my palate, my camera, and my wallet, and report back to you later today about this culinary adventure. All I can think about is Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo sitting at a french sidewalk restaurant in "European Vacation" with the rude french waiter disdainfully saying something in french about Mrs. Griswold's ample chest, knowing that these American boors would not understand.

  1. It sounds like an eating fest up there. Can't wait to join both of you! Hope the Chanticleer is wonderful. It is a pretty spot for sure. Give Kitty hugs for me. We miss you guys!

  2. We had very pleasant experience with the French during a river cruise trip 2 years ago! We were advised to initiate a Buon Jour (sp?) when we first met them in stores and restaurants and the results were positive across the board.
Save some good places for us to visit with you again when we get there!
